Suddenly another August is almost over, and there are signs the strange and beautiful paralysis of summer is coming to an end. It's been my first summer in many years without a job, and without the prospect of one for the autumn. Redundancy has led to some novel outcomes. Phase shift

It's with extreme trepidation that I embark, I can tell you. I've long resisted any temptation I might have had to add even more to the babble of online discourse.

So why have I started this blog? Well, part of it is that I'm entering a phase shift in my life. At the end of April, I get made redundant from the full-time day job that has sustained me for the past eight years.
